MFCU strives to provide young mothers and mothers to be in the Namuwongo slum in Kampala with support to acquire professional skills and economic independence and necessary information about early childhood development, womens’s and children’s rights and sexual reproductive health. We believe that this will enable them to break the cycle of hardship and it equips them to better protect and support themselves and their children. By setting up a network of empowerment we aim to accomplish this in a sustainable manner.

The Namuwongo slum in Kampala is mainly inhabited by immigrants from rural areas in Uganda. The living conditions are poor, there is very limited access to health care, standard education, welfare services and employment rates are low. The vast part of the slum’s community is illiterate and lacks professional skills. Most of the women are unemployed and are dependent on their husbands or other male relatives.
